Born in 1929 in Accra, James Barnor is today considered a pioneer of Ghanaian contemporary photography, with a career that spans six decades and covers a remarkable period in history. The artist took this portrait in 1972, having returned to Accra from London to open his new photography studio and the first colour processing laboratory in Ghana. This iconic image has been widely exhibited, and is held in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum (London, UK).
Signed and dated by Barnor, this limited edition has been hand-printed in the darkroom by master printer Bayeux, London.
