Photographs in Autograph’s collection date from the 1860s to the present day, encompassing different photographic genres and themes.
The growing collection – a living archive – includes approximately 5,000 prints, 10,000 + negatives, 5,000 slides, archive film, several thousand digital and analogue contact sheets, plus related ephemera.
A digital collection comprises over 3,500 high-resolution files, and select ephemera relating to Autograph’s history of publications and exhibitions.
The collection has been developed through artist commissions, donations and strategic acquisitions, and features key images by a diverse constituency of artists from different cultural backgrounds.

Autograph is a place to see things differently. Since 1988, we have championed photography that explores issues of race, identity, representation, human rights and social justice, sharing how photographs reflect lived experiences and shape our understanding of ourselves and others.
