Lina Iris Viktor, We are the Night — The Keepers of Light, 2015-19

Autograph commissioned this artwork in 2019 for the British-Liberian artist’s first major UK solo exhibition Some Are Born To Endless Nights – Dark Matter. The work forms part of Viktor’s evocative Dark Continent series (2016 - present), an imaginary riposte to the 19th century myth of Africa as the ‘dark continent’, and imperial fantasies of empire and expansion.

This photographic print is released in a limited edition of 48 copies. The giclée photographic print is based on a unique artist proof and reproduced in the same size as the original art work; each one is signed and numbered. Please note the original work is not available for acquisition at this time.

In these works on paper, a solitary female figure - naked, shrouded in black paint, her hair golden – inhabits an imaginary monochromatic landscape, its lustrous darkness punctuated by solar and lunar symbols. This limited edition has been generously donated to Autograph by the artist as a fundraiser.

This print will be shipped rolled. The surface of this print is delicate, and may be damaged if touched during unrolling and framing. Therefore, this print is shipped with a white border to facilitate handling, this is not part of the artwork and can be trimmed during framing.
