James Barnor, Eva, London, 1960s

Born in 1929 in Accra, James Barnor is today considered a pioneer of Ghanaian contemporary photography, with a career that spans six decades and covers a remarkable period in history. His portraits bridge continents and photographic genres to create transatlantic narratives marked by his passionate interest in people and cultures.

Eva is one of the artist's most recognisable and iconic images, taken during the early 1960s after a Ghanaian wedding celebration in London. Barnor's work during this period documents societies in transition, as London was becoming a cosmopolitan, multicultural metropolis.

Signed and dated by Barnor, this limited edition has been hand-printed in the darkroom by master printer Bayeux, London.
