James Barnor, Mike Eghan at Piccadilly Circus, London, 1967
12" × 16", edition of 10
Product Description
The artist took this photograph in 1967 while on assignment for Drum - the influential anti-apartheid magazine based in Johannesburg and Africa's first Black lifestyle publication. Barnor recalls “I was on an assignment for Drum to photograph the BBC Africa service presenter Mike Eghan – we met at their studios first, but it became evident quickly that he was too big to be confined indoors, so I thought ‘No, this is not enough; let’s go to the Centre’. We ended up at Trafalgar Square, and later at Piccadilly Circus, shooting for what seemed like hours.”
This limited edition has been hand-printed in the darkroom by master printer Bayeux, London.
