What does it mean for a body to carry a history?
Artists Tarrah Krajnak and Koyoltzintli use photography to resist the erasure of Indigenous, feminist bodies – creating images that carry personal and ancestral memory across generations.
Born in Lima and adopted by a white working-class American family, Tarrah Krajnak explores the gaps in her personal history against the backdrop of Peru’s political upheaval, using archival photographs to imagine a past that remains fragmented and unresolved. Koyoltzintli reflects on how Indigenous origin stories and cultural traditions sustain connection across generations, considering the land as a living relation between memory, ceremony and ancestry. Across their practices, both artists turn to the body, land and image to trace what can be recovered, remembered and reimagined.

Surrounded by their works in Autograph’s new exhibition Our Bodies Have Been Bridges, the conversation will open up intersecting perspectives on indigenous, diasporic feminist practices – affirming both the body and memory as active, generative forces.

Koyoltzintli (born 1983, New York City, USA) is an interdisciplinary artist and educator based in Ulster County, New York. She was raised on the Pacific coast and in the Andean mountains of Ecuador. Her work revolves around sound, ancestral technologies, ritual, and storytelling, blending collaborative processes with personal narratives.
She is interested in a sensitive, intuitive approach to documentary style photography, unravelling the tension between the obscuring and unveiling of identity, knowing and unknowing, desire and fear.
Minnicucci studied Fine Art Film and Video at Central St. Martins. She is Head of Photography at Thomas Tallis School in south east London.
Tarrah Krajnak (born 1979, Lima, Peru) is an artist and educator based in Los Angeles. She is an Associate Professor of Art at UCLA, and is represented by Galerie Thomas Zander, Cologne.
Krajnak is the recipient of the 2025 Henri Cartier-Bresson Creation Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Louis Roederer Discovery Award at Les Rencontres d'Arles, and the Dorothea Lange- Paul Taylor Prize among others. She has published three books including El Jardín De Senderos Que Se Bifurcan (DAIS 2021), Master Rituals II: Weston's Nudes (TBW 2022) and RePose (FW Books 2023).
Bindi Vora is an interdisciplinary artist of Kenyan-Indian heritage, associate lecturer at LCC and senior curator at Autograph, London. She interested in how ideas of resistance and resilience are shaped by our surroundings, histories and lived experiences.
Her practice often combines glyphs and an archive of personal and found photographs procured over the last decade to draw on the intersections between language, culture and their inherent power dynamics.
