Nearly 100 local pupils respond to our exhibition by Omar Victor Diop

POSTED: 11 December 2018

We welcomed pupils from Saint John the Baptist Primary School in Hoxton to the gallery.

As part of our education programme at Autograph, we welcomed Year 4 and 6 pupils to Autograph for a series of workshops exploring the themes in our popular exhibition Omar Victor Diop: Liberty / Diaspora

They met performance poet Adisa the Verbaliser, who shared his lyrics before guiding pupils to write their own quintain poems inspired by Omar's portraits.

The following week pupils returned to the gallery and worked with our Public Programme Manager Ali Eisa, reinterpreting Omar's images by creating their own photographic portraits and collages.

The workshops gave the pupils lots of new inspiration to take back to school for their projects exploring themes ‘Young Gifted & Black’ and ‘Protest’.

“Every child and adult I have spoken to has been absolutely raving about the workshop. They loved it.  Teachers have commented on how engaging Adisa was for the children and how they've never seen their classes so engaged in writing.”
