Sabrina Tirvengadum Artist Residency

2025

Light Work x Autograph Artist-in-Residence

ABOUT THE residency

Artist Sabrina Tirvengadum has been selected for the 2025 Autograph x Light Work artist residency, to support the development of her work exploring her Mauritian heritage and family album.

Every year, Autograph teams up with Light Work in Syracuse, New York – a non-profit, artist-run organisation providing direct support to emerging and under-represented artists working in photography. Autograph selects an artist to go on a residency at Light Work’s studios to pursue their personal projects: an exhibition, publication, printing, or even just space to think. They are provided with travel expenses, a stipend for living and production, a private darkroom, an apartment, and 24-hour access to Light Work’s photo and computer lab facilities. The residency has been running annually since 1996. This year, Autograph and Light Work are supporting two artists to undertake the residency; Sabrina Tirvengadum will be joined in residence by artist Marie Smith.

Sabrina Tirvengadum

Sabrina is a British Mauritian visual artist based in London, working across collage, digital illustration, generative AI art, graphics, film and photography. Her artistic practice is a reflection of her diverse background, weaving together her rich cultural heritage and personal experiences. Rooted in her family history in Mauritius and influenced by the impacts of colonialism, Tirvengadum’s art explores the intricacies of identity, relationships and the human experience.

With a background in Photographic Arts from the University of Westminster and years of experience as a graphic designer, Tirvengadum’s artistic journey is one of continuous exploration and growth. As the founder of We’re All Human, Tirvengadum strives to promote inclusivity in digital spaces, using her art as a powerful tool to challenge and disrupt ableist systems in both her culture and Western society. Her recent solo exhibition, Who Are They? Who Am I ? took place at the Attenborough Arts Centre in Leicester, UK. To find out more, visit her website.
