You are invited to celebrate the opening of two new exhibitions at Autograph's gallery in Hackney: the first exhibition of Ernest Cole's photographs documenting New York City during the height of the civil rights movement in America, and C. Rose Smith's work confronting the histories of violence and wealth on cotton plantations in the Southern United States.
C. Rose Smith critically questions power and authority, centring her body at historical sites marked by wealth and violence in the American South. She demands visibility, while reflecting upon the black body as a former commodity. Curated by Bindi Vora.
