Why

To provide creative relief and support the well-being, creative confidence and development of children staying at Great Ormond Street Hospital

ABOUT THE PRoJECT

Since 2019, Autograph have been delivering creative workshops for children with complex needs and their families as part of our Family SEND Programme. Now, we’re taking our award-winning programme on the road and testing it out at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

Between January and May 2026, artists Amy Leung and Ophir Yaron will devise and deliver workshops for families at one of the world’s leading children’s hospitals, with support provided by ActionSpace.

Families staying in the hospital will have the opportunity to engage with creative workshops designed to accommodate their needs. Taking inspiration from ideas of child-led creative play, material exploration and sensory experiences, we will provide free-flowing activities, so that children have the freedom to engage with materials in a way which follows their own interests and abilities.

Where better to offer this provision than on the wards of GOSH, where many long-stay children and families miss out on access to the arts and are experiencing heightened levels of distress. Creative activities can distract children from challenging procedures, bring moments of laughter and joy to hospital spaces, and offer parents, carers and staff alike moments of respite.

Workshops will bring the benefits of creative play and expression to families - building confidence, easing anxiety and improving wellbeing.

about the artists

Amy Leung

Amy is a London based artist working across sculpture, drawing and workshops to articulate and communicate joy. Working in art education, she is interested in the points where community, craft, objects and cultural identity meet. Materials and playwork are key to her practice, with ideas emerging through making together. Senses and bodies mingle with materials; delighting in the responsive nature of stuff and spaces.

Amy has previously worked with schools, families and communities on projects at Camden Art Centre, Firstsite, the Royal Academy, SLG, Towner Eastbourne and MK Gallery. She often works with groups and communities with crossovers with social work, healthcare and formal educational settings.
