In late 2024, six women who are in the process of seeking, or have been granted, asylum in the UK came together at Autograph to create artwork about their experiences – and hopes for the future.
They received collaborative mentoring with essential support from Women for Refugee Women. Using photography and film to document their lives, the project aims to amplify women’s often unheard stories through photography and creative storytelling, raising awareness and fostering a deeper understanding of their experiences.
The work they created will now be displayed on a giant digital billboard at one of East London's busiest roundabouts. Everyone is welcome to join us at this celebratory launch, starting at Autograph’s gallery in Shoreditch. There will be a pop-up display showcasing the multimedia artworks alongside speeches, music and refreshments. Afterwards, we will take a short walk to view the billboard.
This event is part of the programme Putting Ourselves in the Picture 2: Engaging with Industry, in partnership with Women For Refugee Women and Fast Forward: Women in Photography.
Everyone is welcome at Autograph. Planning a visit? Have a look at our Visit Us page to find out more about getting to the gallery, accessibility and more.

See moreProfessional filmmakers will be at this event to shoot footage documenting the project and it's outcomes. If you do not want to be filmed, you will not be. Just let a member of staff know at the event, or get in touch at harriet@autograph-abp.co.uk before the event.
To create a safe space for everyone, we ask that attendees do not take photographs or film at this event.
Autograph is a place to see things differently. Since 1988, we have championed photography that explores issues of race, identity, representation, human rights and social justice, sharing how photographs reflect lived experiences and shape our understanding of ourselves and others.
