Autograph's new exhibition Dianne Minnicucci: Belonging and Beyond explores how vulnerability and discomfort in front of the camera can become acts of self-discovery and collaboration. What does it mean to be unguarded? What do we reveal of ourselves to each other? Minnicucci embraces the unease of being photographed – where to look, how to position the body – allowing these moments of uncertainty to shape this new series of portraits of herself and her young son.
The artist will be in-conversation with writer Gem Fletcher where they will discuss the art of vulnerability in photography. This event will take place in the gallery surrounded by the exhibition.
The ticket price for this event is £5. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. If this ticket price is unaffordable for you, please get in touch with Harriet at harriet@autograph-abp.co.uk about free ticketing options.
Dianne Minnicucci (born 1977, Darlington, UK) is a London-based visual artist exploring the boundaries of documentary storytelling. Rooted autobiographically, her work presents familial moments loaded with intimacy.
She is interested in a sensitive, intuitive approach to documentary style photography, unravelling the tension between the obscuring and unveiling of identity, knowing and unknowing, desire and fear.
Minnicucci studied Fine Art Film and Video at Central St. Martins. She is Head of Photography at Thomas Tallis School in south east London.
Gem Fletcher is a writer, consultant and podcaster. Her work has been published in Foam, Aperture, Dazed, Creative Review, 1000 Words and The British Journal of Photography.
She also hosts The Messy Truth podcast, a series of candid conversations that unpack the future of visual culture and what it means to be a photographer today.
Now in its ninth season, Gem explores reflections on criticism, starting out, mental health, politics and success with guests like Antwuan Sargent, Catherine Opie, Farah Al Qasimi, Carmen Winant, Charlotte Cotton, Quil Lemons, Brea Souders and Laia Abril.
