ABOUT THE display

Sixteen young Londoners aged 16-18 take over Old Street Roundabout with a new display of self-portraiture. Created through Common Ground, Autograph’s annual collaboration with UAL Insights, the works reflect what matters most to them growing up in the city today.

Turning the camera on themselves, the portraits are deeply personal. They take inspiration from bedrooms filled with music, heritage documented through colour and traditional dress and streetwear reimagined as acts of self-expression. Some works confront faith, nostalgia or displacement while others reflect on self-acceptance, culture and the complexities of growing up in London today.

Developed over the summer with artists Adrian Wood and D Wiafe, the students honed their skills at London College of Communication and Autograph, while meeting other artists and industry mentors to explore creative careers. The result is a powerful reflection of a generation.
