ABOUT THE EVENT

Autograph's curator, Bindi Vora, will be in conversation with transmedia artist and activist Poulomi Basu at Aesthetica Magazine's event The Personal is Political. Together they will discuss how activism, protest and resistance underpins Basu's work, examining the intersections of race, class and gender and the experience of systemic violence.

Basu is known for her work advocating for the rights of marginalised women using the power of photography, video and sound as tools for storytelling, amplifying women’s voices from the majority world. She has become widely known for her influential photographic projects Blood Speaks, Centralia, To Conquer Her Land, and her most recent series Fireflies – exhibiting now at Autograph's gallery in Hackney, London.

Reflecting on the arc of Basu's creative practice, this conversation will touch upon some of the enduring legacies of women’s trauma.

Poulomi Basu: Fireflies is curated by Bindi Vora, and is on display at Autograph, London, until 4 June 2022. Find out more
