This short documentary film follows artist and teacher Aasha John between her home, her ceramics studio and Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School, where she teaches. Shot during her time on Autograph’s Visible Practice Residency project, the film reflects on how place, memory and environment shape John’s processes of making and learning, and explores how methods of deep listening and dialogue can shape both a classroom and studio practice.
The film was made to coincide with John’s exhibition, As I Weave, exploring how storytelling, migration and craft can hold connections across generations.

Autograph is a space to see things differently. Since 1988, we have championed photography that explores issues of race, identity, representation, human rights and social justice, sharing how photographs reflect lived experiences and shape our understanding of ourselves and others.
