#SpelZanelePride hosted by Lyrispect

POSTED: 25 October 2018

Inspired by our touring exhibition by Zanele Muholi, an afternoon of poetic proportions took place at Spelman College Museum of Fine Art, Atlanta.

Spelman College Museum of Fine Art is the only museum in the United States emphasising art by women of the African Diaspora.

We're proud that our exhibition curated by Renée Mussai Zanele Muholi: Somnyama Ngonyama, Hail The Dark Lioness is currently at the Museum - the US premiere of the show.

Inspired by Zanele's work, the #SpelZanelePRIDE event on 13 October featured an original performance by the award winning lyricist and activist, L.Y.R.I.S.P.E.C.T.

Lyrispect also moderated a panel of invited guests, Dr. Beverly Guy Sheftall, Latishia James-Portis, and Marla Renee Stewart, to tackle questions surrounding the sexuality, spirituality, and visibility of LGBTQI women of the African Diaspora.

Thank you Adrianna Clark for the beautiful photographs from the event! If you are in Atlanta, don't miss the exhibition. It's on until 8 December 2018.
