Middlesex University Archive Visit

POSTED: 18 December 2018

Students visited Autograph's archive, sparking complex discussions about how visual arts can affect change in our communities.

We welcomed BA and MA students from Middlesex University to Autograph on 29 November, for a workshop exploring works from our archive.

Since our foundation in 1988, Autograph has collected photographic material which reflects our mission: to use photography to explore questions of cultural identity, race, representation, human rights and social justice. Photographs in the collection date from the 1860s to the present day, encompassing different genres and themes.

We brought portfolio boxes down from our archive to the Studio for students to view and discuss, including Syd Shelton's Rock Against Racism, the Handsworth Self Portrait Project, and John Goto's portraits of young people in 1970s Lewisham.

The University sees Autograph's collection as a valuable resource for students - this is the third year we've had the pleasure to share our work with them.
