Lola Flash and Maxine Walker Opening Night

POSTED: 13 May 2019

More than 400 people joined us for the launch of Autograph's new exhibitions

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening of Autograph's new exhibitions Lola Flash: [sur]passing and Maxine Walker: Untitled. Our exhibition openings are popular events, and this one was no exception! More than 400 people came along to celebrate with us.

In Gallery 1: Working at the forefront of genderqueer visual politics for more than three decades, Lola Flash’s work challenges stereotypes and gender, sexual, and racial preconceptions. This is Flash's first major solo exhibition in London, and it was a pleasure to welcome her - along with several of the sitters from her photographs - to Autograph.

In Gallery 2: Maxine Walker joined us for the launch of Untitled. The exhibition reintroduces Walker as a pioneering artist whose practice focused on representations of black womanhood - using photography to interrogate the intricacies of skin, blackness and being. This is the first solo exhibition of Walker's work in more than 22 years.

Both exhibitions are open until 17 August 2019. Everyone is welcome, admission is free.
