Black Girl Meetup Visits Autograph

It was a pleasure to welcome Black Girl Meetup to Autograph on Thursday. Chinyere Ifemeni - who writes about contemporary African art on her blog F3MININJA - started the group for black women to visit exhibitions by predominantly black artists.

An introduction to Phoebe Boswell: The Space Between Things was given by Autograph's Curatorial Assistant Leanne Petersen, and discussion continued in our Studio after seeing the exhibition. In Chinyere's words:

“Black Girl Meetup started out as an initiative to meet more black women interested in art and form friendships with. On 10 January, we had our official 2nd organised meetup to see the wondrous work of Phoebe Boswell at Autograph; it couldn’t have been a better choice. Those who were in attendance were left feeling moved, inspired, and grateful.

For most, this was an introduction to Phoebe Boswell and I am happy to know that I and Autograph had a part to play in bringing the shining light that is Boswell to them.

Thank you Autograph for welcoming us all with such warmth; thank you to Leanne for your brilliant walkthrough; thank you to Renée Mussai, the curator of this exhibition, for your spectacular vision, and lastly but certainly not least; thank you to Phoebe Boswell for gifting us with such a vulnerable piece of work and being so bare. Black Girl Meetup will surely be returning to this space.”
